About PowerGridIQ
Independent, source-transparent grid intelligence, turning real-time data from public operators into something a planner, investor, or engineer can actually use.
PowerGridIQ is an independent platform that aggregates real-time electricity-grid data from public operators around the world and turns it into something usable. We track power generation, wholesale prices, fuel mix, carbon intensity, and grid health across more than 40 regions, and we present it in one consistent interface so you can compare a grid in Ontario against one in Texas, Germany, or South Africa without learning each operator's bespoke reporting portal.
The project began with a simple frustration. Anyone trying to answer a practical question, Where should we site a new data center? Which region has spare capacity for an AI cluster? When is the cleanest hour to charge a fleet?, quickly discovers that the underlying data exists but is scattered across dozens of incompatible sources. The U.S. Energy Information Administration publishes one format. Ontario's IESO publishes another. Europe's ENTSO-E requires registration and returns data per bidding zone. Australia's AEMO refreshes every five minutes in yet another schema. Each is authoritative; none talks to the others. PowerGridIQ exists to do that translation work once, transparently, so you don't have to.
What we cover
For each tracked region we surface, where public data allows: current grid load and frequency, generation by fuel type, wholesale spot price, estimated carbon intensity, reserve margin, and a derived "system-level room" figure meant to indicate at market level how easily a grid could absorb new large loads. For regions without real-time public APIs, we fall back to clearly labeled structural estimates built from operator annual reports and historical patterns, and we mark every figure with a confidence badge so you always know whether you're looking at a live reading or a model.
Who uses it
Data-center and AI-infrastructure teams evaluating where to connect new load; EV and fleet operators looking for the cleanest, cheapest charging windows; industrial and commercial users watching demand pressure and grid stress; and energy investors and analysts who want a fast, comparable view across markets. The tool is free and requires no signup, because we think baseline grid transparency should be a public good rather than a gated enterprise product.
Our principles
We are source-transparent: every data point links back to the operator or portal it came from, and we never present a model estimate as if it were a live measurement. We are non-promotional: we don't sell leads, rank regions for payment, or let advertisers influence what the data says. And we are honest about limits, there are grids (parts of the Middle East, Japan's restricted market data, Switzerland's gaps in ENTSO-E) where real-time public data simply doesn't exist, and we say so rather than inventing numbers.
